United States Judge Juan Merchan sentenced President-elect Donald Trump to "unconditional discharge" for the hush money case on Friday, which means that the incoming head of state will be getting no jail time.

"The considerable, indeed extraordinary legal protections afforded the office of the chief executive is a factor that overrides all others," the judge said, adding, however, that this doesn't "reduce the seriousness of the crime or justify its commission in any way." "Ordinary citizens do not receive those legal protections. It is the office of the president that bestows those to the office holder," he went on to say.

During the court session, Trump insisted that he was "totally innocent" and that he "did nothing wrong." He went on to call this experience "horrible" and a "political witch hunt."
