VDL: EU backs Ukraine at negotiating table
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed Europe's commitment to Ukraine on Saturday. "Europe will always stand by Ukraine in the pursuit of peace. You can count on our support at the negotiating table to achieve a just and lasting peace. Today, we also discussed the steps Ukraine is taking to earn its place in our family of nations," she wrote on X after holding a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following Pope Francis' funeral.
Earlier in the day, von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump agreed to arrange a bilateral meeting after a brief conversation, according to EC spokesperson Anouar El Anouni. No further details about the meeting were provided.
Von der Leyen also posted photos from Vatican City, where she exchanged greetings with several world leaders, including Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. "I had good exchanges with several of them," she wrote.
