Brazil's Secretary of Digital Policies, Joao Brant, sharply criticized Meta's recent move to replace fact-checkers with community notes, a change announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Brant claimed on Tuesday that Zuckerberg’s decision signals Meta's alliance with the Trump administration, aiming to confront the EU, Brazil, and other countries protecting online rights.

He described the shift as an invitation to far-right activism, asserting that Facebook and Instagram will prioritize free speech over collective rights. Brant also warned that Meta’s new policies, including reduced content moderation and financial pressure on fact-checkers, could undermine trust in information.

"[Zuckerberg’s] will also reinforce 'civic content' on the platforms, which signals that he is willing to serve as a platform for Trump's agenda…" Brant said.
