United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed on Tuesday that the tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2 will come into effect tomorrow. He insisted the US must address its trade deficit, which is "the manifestation of the loss of our nation's ability to make, to grow, to build."

Greer told the Senate Finance Committee that nearly 50 countries have approached him to discuss the administration's economic policy and "explore how to achieve reciprocity." However, he pointed out China has not reached out and "has not indicated" that it wants to work with the US toward "reciprocity."
