Zelensky says Kiev will cease attacks if Moscow acts likewise
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Kiev will cease attacks on the Russian territory if Moscow does the same and respects a 30-hour ceasefire proposed by President Vladimir Putin.
"If Russia is now suddenly ready to truly engage in a format of full and unconditional silence, Ukraine will act accordingly — mirroring Russia’s actions. Silence in response to silence, defensive strikes in response to attacks," Zelensky said in a post on X. He further proposed an extension of the ceasefire beyond Easter. "30 hours is enough to make headlines, but not for genuine confidence-building measures," he said, adding that a 30-day ceasefire could "give peace a chance."
However, the Ukrainian head of state underlined that he will get detailed information on the situation on the front from the military later this evening, when it will be clear if Russia has stopped attacking Ukrainian targets.
