Vance 'optimistic' about Ukraine war settlement
United States Vice President JD Vance said during a visit to Rome on Friday that he believes the war in Ukraine can be resolved.
"Since there are the negotiations, I won't prejudge them, but we do feel optimistic that we can hopefully bring this war, this very brutal war, to a close," Vance stressed, noting he plans to update Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the progress of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. He also said that he plans to discuss "trade negotiations, not only between Italy and the US, but also with the EU" with Meloni.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said progress was made during talks on Ukraine in Paris, but warned that Washington may "move on" from trying to resolve the crisis if it concludes it is not "doable in the short term."
