US patrol plane flies over Taiwan Strait
A US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft conducted a transit through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, reinforcing the US stance on the waterway's international status, the Commander, US 7th Fleet informed on their webpage.
The operation carried out in compliance with international law, underscores Washington’s commitment to maintaining navigational freedoms in the region. The flight comes amid tensions between China and Taiwan, with Beijing likely viewing such movements as provocative.
"By operating within the Taiwan Strait in accordance with international law, the United States upholds the navigational rights and freedoms of all nations. The aircraft's transit of the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military flies, sails and operates anywhere international law allows," the official statement showed.
