The National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson released a statement on Monday, mentioning that there are evident indications that the presidential election outcomes declared by the National Electoral Council a day ahead do not accurately represent the will of the Venezuelan voters.

"We continue to call for Venezuela's electoral authorities to release full, transparent, and detailed voting results, including by polling station […] We are also reviewing other electoral data shared by civil society organizations and the reports of international election monitors," the statement showed.

The US remarks come after the opposition politician Freddy Superlano was unlawfully detained by masked men. This adds further concerns to the social and political tensions in the country following Nicolas Maduro's reelection.
