US charges 4 Russian soldiers with war crimes
The United States government charged four Russian soldiers with war crimes over an incident during the Russia-Ukraine war, CNN reported on Wednesday citing a court filing. The indictment claims the soldiers abducted an unnamed American citizen from his home in the Ukrainian village of Mylove in April 2022, beating him at gunpoint. The victim was then allegedly transported to an "improvised military compound" in the village used by the Russian army and affiliated separatist groups.
The prosecutors also claim the victim was subjected to torture, interrogation and forced labor. They also stress that he was not involved in the war in Ukraine, making him a protected person under the Geneva Convention. The indictment charged Suren Seiranovich Mkrtchyan, Dmitry Budnik, V Alerii Lnu and Nazar Lnu with conspiracy to commit war crimes, unlawful confinement of a protected person, torture, and inhuman treatment.
