The Pacific island nation of Tonga was struck by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake's epicenter was around 90 km southeast of Pangai, the administrative center of Tonga's Haʻapai island group.

The USGS said there is a potential threat of a tsunami. There is currently no information on casualties and damage.
