British daily newspaper The Guardian issued a statement on Wednesday announcing it will no longer post on X, formerly Twitter, via any of its official accounts.

The publication slammed X as a "toxic media platform" and accused its owner and chairman, billionaire Elon Musk, of using "its influence to shape political discourse" during the 2024 United States presidential election.

"This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism," The Guardian said. "Social media can be an important tool for news organizations and help us to reach new audiences but, at this point, X now plays a diminished role in promoting our work."
