OpenAI is allegedly making X-like social network
Artificial Intelligence company OpenAI is secretly working on its own X-like social network, The Verge reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the project.
The report indicates that the application is currently in its early stages. An internal prototype has been developed focusing on ChatGPT's image-generation capabilities that feature a social feed. However, it remains unclear when the application will be launched or whether the social network will function as a standalone application or be integrated into the leading chatbot platform.
The move is expected to heighten the already intense relationship between Sam Altman and Elon Musk, as it would suggest direct competition with Musk's Grok. Launching a social app would also provide OpenAI with unique, real-time data, similar to what X and Meta already possess, which could be valuable for training their AI models. After its latest funding round, the ChatGPT maker has over 500 million users and is valued at $300 billion.
