Wall Street starts first trading day in 2024 with losses
Major stock indexes in the United States started the first trading session in 2024 with losses as investors awaited the latest reports on manufacturing and construction spending scheduled for release after the opening bell. In business, Tesla Inc. unveiled that its deliveries in the last quarter of 2023 reached 484,507, while Rivian Automotive Inc. revealed that its deliveries fell in the same period.
The Dow Jones opened 0.47% or 176 points lower, as Apple Inc. fell by 3.11%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.92%, with ASML Holding NV shrinking 3.72%. The S&P 500 declined 0.57%, while Advanced Micro Devices Inc contracted by 3.87%.
The euro dropped 0.78% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, to sell for $1.09532.
