Minister: Italy to meet NATO 2% target in 2025
Italian Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti announced on Thursday that Rome is on track to reach the NATO defense spending 2% target this year. Speaking before the Budget Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate during a hearing on the 2025 Economic and Financial Document, Giorgetti emphasized that the assessment, carried out using NATO methodology, was conducted with "particular scrupulousness."
Giorgetti also addressed the broader economic outlook, stressing that the government is paying close attention to the potential impact of tariffs on both household consumption and business investment. His address comes amid Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's visit to Washington, where she will meet United States President Donald Trump later in the day.
