Merck & Co. Inc. announced on Tuesday that the company is set to invest $1 billion in a new facility in Delaware.

The production will include new drugs and a new version of Keytruda, its cancer treatment that will soon have its first manufacturing site within the United States. The new version of the drug, to be given by injection, will be made at the site by 2030, while the new factory will create 4,500 new jobs.

As the talks about drug tariffs are intensifying, more drugmakers have decided to invest in the US production, like Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and Roche. "It is really a strategy to make sure we can source the US needs from US sites. As you look at what the current administration is doing and what President Trump is trying to achieve, this is very much aligned with that," Merck Chief Executive Rob Davis commented.
