Several companies in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry warned that the Trump administration's trade duties and rules regarding Chinese-built vessels will hurt US President Donald Trump's "energy dominance" agenda, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing lobbying letters by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

According to the letter cited in the report, the LNG companies stated that the rules that the White House announced recently regarding the fees aimed at vessels that were made in China and are docking in the US ports, may cost the country's export industry $34 billion a year. The API also reportedly warned in the letters that LNG producers are not able to comply with the rules as it was said that there are currently no US-built ships capable of shipping LNG, and the American shipyards lack the available capacity to construct LNG carriers in time for the 2029 deadline.
