Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is working on its new artificial intelligence chip and looking to test its feasibility with the help of some of China's major tech companies, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, Huawei hopes the newest in the series of its Ascend AI processors, Ascend 910D, will be more powerful than Nvidia's H100. The report also stated that more than 800,000 of the previous versions of the company's processors, Ascend 910B and 910C, were shipped to various state-owned and private AI developers, including TikTok's parent company ByteDance. Some companies reportedly requested an increase in the 910C orders after United States President Donald Trump restricted the exports of Nvidia's H20.

Huawei was said to be expecting the first batch of samples of the new AI chip towards the end of next month.
