Consumer prices in Japan up 0.7% YoY in May
Consumer prices in Japan were up 0.7% in May year-over-year, after showing an increase of 0.6% in the previous month, the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said on Friday.
Excluding fresh food and energy, prices were up 0.7% on an annual basis, unchanged month-on-month. All items, less fresh food and energy rose 0.3% in May year-on-year, showing no changes compared to April. Biggest changes in May on an annual basis were observed in fuel, light and water charges as well as medical care, rising 3.1% and 1.9%, respectively. The largest drop was seen in furniture and household utensils, marking a decline of 1.5%.
Goods were up 1.1% year-over-year, to grow 0.2% compared to April. Meanwhile, services rose 0.2% year-on-year, showing no change since the previous month.
