British oil and gas company BP plc has officially appointed Kate Thomson as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately, marking the culmination of the company's executive team reorganization.

The announcement comes in the wake of Bernard Looney's sudden departure as CEO last September, with Thomson stepping in as interim CFO shortly after Murray Auchincloss assumed the role of interim CEO.
