White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing on Friday that the Reuters report indicating US President Donald Trump's intention to delay imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico until March 1 was "false" and that the tariffs deadline was set for February 1.

"The President will be implementing tomorrow a 25% tariff on Mexico, a 25% tariff on Canada, and a 10% tariff on China for the illegal fentanyl they have sourced and allowed to distribute into our country which has killed tens of millions of Americans," Leavitt added. She mentioned that Trump has yet to decide regarding the schedule for imposing tariffs on the European Union.

Earlier today, Reuters reported, citing a US administration official, that Trump was expected to announce 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico that would go into effect on March 1, but would include a process for the countries to seek specific exemptions for certain imports like oil.
