United States Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday that America's "hostile foreign adversaries" have "weaponized" artificial intelligence to "rewrite history, surveil users and censor speech" and vowed that Washington will take measures to protect American AI and chip technology from "theft and misuse."

Speaking at an AI summit in Paris, Vance said the US will "close pathways" for adversaries to attain AI capabilities that "threaten all of our people." He warned that partnering with "authoritarian" regimes who use new technologies for such purposes "never pays off in the long term."

The US vice president claimed that partnering with countries that offer "cheap" and "heavily subsidized" tech means "chaining yourself to an authoritarian master" that wants to "infiltrate and seize your information infrastructure."
