United States President Donald Trump said at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday that he would like to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "soon" and "get the war [in Ukraine] ended."

Trump insisted his main reason for wanting to end the war was not "from the standpoint of economy" but in order to stop human losses, claiming "far more people have died that is being reported." He also called on China to help with the efforts to resolve the conflict. Trump acknowledged it is ultimately up to Russia if the war will end within the next year as Ukraine is "ready to make a deal."

The US president also claimed a "lot of progress" has been made toward resolving the Middle East conflict and remained confident it will "come along pretty well."
