ChatGPT-owner OpenAI will allow the sale of $1.5 billion worth of employee shares to SoftBank, CNBC reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Sources revealed that SoftBank, having already contributed $500 million during OpenAI's $6.6 billion funding round in October, aims to finalize the deal by the end of the week. The financial arrangement will enable both current and former OpenAI staff members to offload shares amounting to $1.5 billion in a new tender offer directed at the Japanese technology giant before December 24.

The report also highlighted that this move is being spearheaded by SoftBank's CEO, Masayoshi Son.
