Sheinbaum: Mexico will not impose tit-for-tat tariffs
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Wednesday that her administration will not respond with retaliatory tariffs to new US trade measures expected today at 4 pm ET. She emphasized that Mexico has a comprehensive economic plan and will continue discussions with Washington.
While declining to reveal specific measures, she stressed that the government’s response will not be a simple tariff-for-tariff approach.
Yesterday, the Mexican leader also expressed hope that the tariff pause under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) would be extended. However, she indicated that her upcoming announcement on Thursday would address broader economic strategies beyond the immediate tariff situation.
