The United States Senate Armed Services Committee scheduled the confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump's defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth (pictured), for January 14, the panel's incoming Chair Roger Wicker told CNN.

The announcement comes after reports from earlier this month claimed Trump could replace Hegseth as his nominee for the top Pentagon role over concerns he wouldn't;t get enough support to be confirmed as a result of allegations of sexual assault and harassment against him.

On Tuesday, a group of Senate Democrats, led by Senator from Massachusetts Elizabeth Warren, wrote a letter to Trump's incoming Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to express "deep concerns" about Hegseth's nomination.
