Reeves: UK, US want trade deal in both countries' interests
United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said on Friday that she met United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for talks on a potential trade agreement that would be in the "national interests" of both countries.
"The UK-US relationship has delivered prosperity for businesses and working people on both sides of the Atlantic. Today I met with @SecScottBessent to discuss the UK-US economic prosperity deal and our goal of reaching an agreement that is in both our national interests," Reeves said in a post on X.
Earlier this week, the UK chancellor said her country was "ready to remove trade barriers" in an effort to ensure an agreement, insisted that UK food and automotive safety standards and digital services policies are non-negotiable.
