The Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) is a "cutting-edge" type of weapon, Russian President Vladimir Putin remarked on Thursday during the annual end-of-the-year conference.

When asked whether this type of missile is "old" as the West claims, the Russian president mentioned that "anything that is done anywhere is based on previous achievements and then we make a step forward and the same thing applies to Oreshnik."

He explained that this is a new armament that the Western powers shouldn't underestimate, further insisting that the missile cannot be shot down.
