Ontario Premier Doug Ford pointed out during an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday that Canada "will not back down" from the tariff war brewing after US President Donald Trump imposed doubled tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the country.

"President Trump launched an unprovoked trade and tariff war with America's closest friend and ally. Until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, we won't back down," Ford added. "President Trump has underestimated the resilience and the strength of the Canadian population."

Trump claimed this move responded to the Canadian's announcement of a 25% surcharge on the electricity his province exports to New York, Michigan and Minnesota following the US' first wave of tariffs against the North American country.
