Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called on the world's nations to "think differently from the past," adding that the goal must be to build a new model of global cooperation based on mutual respect.

Meloni, addressing the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, stated Italy is expanding its economic cooperation with African nations. The Italian prime minister stated her country has stepped up its efforts to invest in food security on the African continent. Speaking of African migrants coming illegally to Europe, Meloni noted it is "important to guarantee their right to not have to emigrate."

She reaffirmed her support for Ukraine's sovereignty and independence amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. Meloni repeated that Israel has the right to self-defense "from external attacks" while saying it is "imperative" to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza.
