Lagarde: Decision to cut rates unanimous
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde revealed on Thursday that the central bank's decision to cut the three key interest rates by 25 basis points was reached unanimously.
"There was no discussion as to whether this decision was appropriate or not. It was a unanimous decision. So, all governors supported the decision that was articulated by Philip Lane this morning of cutting by 25 points," Lagarde said.
She reiterated that the ECB's policy is still in "restrictive territory" while stressing that discussing whether to halt the rate cuts "would be premature at this point in time." She further stated that any further decision on monetary policy would be based on the data that will be collected "in the coming weeks and months."
