Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could speak to his American counterpart Donald Trump over the phone following his meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg.
Peskov noted the phone call is "theoretically possible" but did not confirm it would take place. The Kremlin spokesperson noted that Witkoff and Putin have been talking for two hours and that the meeting is still ongoing.
Ahead of the meeting, Peskov noted that no breakthroughs should be expected from the Putin-Witkoff talks, but pointed out the two sides "continue to work meticulously" to normalize relations.
