Japan's service sector improved in February, with the main figure rising to 53.7, according to a report released by S&P Global on Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted figure showed the Jibun Bank Japan Services Business Activity Index landing above the neutral 50 marking an overall growth in the sector and an increase from last month's figure of 53.0.

"The performance of the Japanese service sector improved further in February, as businesses recorded the strongest expansion in activity since last September. The increase was often attributed to higher sales volumes, which were supported by a stronger rise in new export business," an economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence, Usamah Bhatti, said in the report.
