Italy, France, Austria get €392M from EU to recover after floods
The European Commission announced on Friday that Italy, France, and Austria received €392 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to recover from last year's floods.
The Commission paid Italy €284.1 million for the floods in the Emilia-Romagna region in May 2023 and €67.8 million for the floods in Tuscany in October and November 2023. Today's amount in combination with last year's advance payment of €94.7 million brings the total EUSF support to Italy to €446.6 million. The fund also gave €35 million to France today to help with reconstruction after the floods in Nord-Pas-de-Calais in November 2023, while Austria received €5.2 million from the EU to recover from the heavy storms in the country's south in August 2023.
"The EU Solidarity Fund is a concrete demonstration of European solidarity with citizens and regions by helping them in these recovery and rebuilding efforts," Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms Raffaele Fitto said.
