France's Court of Cassation upheld the conviction of former President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday for corruption and influence peddling on Wednesday.

Initially sentenced in 2021 to three years in prison on corruption charges, Sarkozy appealed the ruling, leading to a reduction of his sentence to one year. Rather than serving time in prison, he will fulfill his sentence under electronic monitoring by wearing an ankle bracelet.

Namely, Sarkozy was found guilty of attempting to bribe a judge in exchange for confidential information regarding the investigation into his campaign finances.
