The Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3 is under investigation for "deliberately" cutting two critical data cables in the Baltic Sea last week, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The ship, which carried Russian fertilizers, reportedly dragged its anchor for over 100 miles, cutting cables linking Sweden to Lithuania and Germany to Finland. European warships, including NATO vessels, have surrounded the ship.
Authorities suspect Russian intelligence may have orchestrated the sabotage. The ship's transponder was turned off during the incidents, raising further questions. The investigation adds to tensions over suspected Russian infrastructure attacks in Europe.
