Carney sworn in as new Canadian prime minister
Leader of the Liberal Party Mark Carney was sworn in as the new Canadian prime minister on Friday, succeeding Justin Trudeau as the country's head of government.
Carney became the country's new prime minister amid heightened trade tensions with the United States. Previously, US President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Canada, prompting Ottawa to begin dispute proceedings before the World Trade Organization (WTO). Carney, an economist, called the duties an "attack" on Canadian workers but said he was ready to talk to Trump.
His first trips abroad are rumored to be to the United Kingdom and France.
