Asia trades higher after Trump pauses tariffs on Mexico, Canada

Markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded higher on Tuesday after United States President Donald Trump paused tariffs on both Mexico and Canada. The move, which came after the two countries pledged to intensify measures to secure their borders, eased fears of a trade war kicking off.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.43% at 3:13 am CET. South Korea's Kospi Composite jumped by 1.84% a minute later. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 2.54% at 3:14 am CET. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 increased by 1.66% at 3:14 am CET.

Chinese mainland markets remain closed for the Lunar New Year.

The dollar traded 0.29% higher against the yen, going for ¥155.1670 at 3:15 am CET.
