Wall Street opens lower ahead of Trump tariffs

Stock indexes in the United States traded with losses at the opening bell on Wednesday as global markets braced for US tariffs on all imported cars, steel and aluminum, set to enter into force today. In addition, US President Donald Trump is expected to announce reciprocal tariffs on global trade partners. In business, Tesla Inc. revealed that its deliveries in the first quarter of 2025 reached 336,681 units, missing analysts' expectations.

The Dow Jones dropped 0.82% or 343 points at 9:30 am ET with Nvidia losing 2.92%. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 dipped 1.34% and the S&P fell by 1.03%. Tesla dragged both indexes down, tumbling 5.56%.

The euro gained 0.27% compared to the dollar at 9:28 am ET, changing hands at $1.08230.
