Azerbaijan has shown interest in joining BRICS, as stated by the country's ambassador to Russia, Polad Bulbuloglu told TASS news agency in an interview.

He mentioned discussing Azerbaijan's desire to join the group with Russian officials. However, he acknowledged that joining BRICS involves a process and significant effort, with many nations also seeking membership.

BRICS, initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China in 2006, later welcomed South Africa in 2011. The group expanded further earlier in 2024, when Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia became full members.
