Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) while addressing the Federal Assembly on Thursday that launching an invasion of his country would have "tragic" consequences on the alliance's members.

Putin insisted that any time a foreign power attacked Russia, "we know how that ended," referring to the defeats suffered by Napoleon's France in the Great Patriotic War and Nazi Germany in the Second World War. He also criticized NATO for accusing Russia of aggression in Ukraine while accepting new members, Finland and Sweden, both either close to or sharing a border with his country.

Moreover, Putin accused the West of not wanting to negotiate peace in Ukraine but seeking to continue the conflict until Russia is defeated.
