Nissan, Honda commence merger talks
Japanese automakers Honda Motor and Nissan Motor Corporation made public their decision on Monday to commence formal discussions regarding a potential merger, with the intention of establishing a joint holding company by August 2026. The collaboration would form the world's third-largest automaker based on sales figures.
The parent company, which would be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, could deliver revenue of ¥30 trillion ($191.4 billion) and operating profit of over ¥3 trillion, according to Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe. Discussions are set to conclude in June 2025.
This initiative arises from their partnership that began in August, as both automakers seek to enhance their advancements in sectors requiring significant investment, like electric vehicles and software. Mitsubishi has also been offered the chance to join the new group and will take a decision by the end of January 2025.
