Magdeburg attacker identified as S. Arabian doctor
Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt Reiner Haseloff told media on Friday that the individual responsible for the car-ramming incident at the Christmas market in Magdeburg was a 50-year-old Saudi Arabian doctor from Magdeburg Hospital. The individual, a permanent resident of Germany since 2006, is not believed to have Islamist affiliations.
The official further confirmed that at least two people died, including a child, and another 60 sustained injuries. Earlier media reports claimed that at least 11 people were killed and dozens injured after the car was driven into a crowd at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany.
According to regional media MDR, authorities warned that the assailant's vehicle might have contained an explosive device. Early accounts mentioned the presence of a package on the passenger seat.
